Computer Vision Syndrome

What is Computer Vision Syndrome?

Modern demands on the visual system have evolved as computers and other digital screens have become ubiquitous with everyday life. Computer vision syndrome can result from screen use. This syndrome can include:

  • Eye strain or fatigue
  • Headache
  • Blurred vision
  • Delay in change from distance to near targets
  • Light sensitivity and glare
  • Distance blur after work on the computer
  • Contact lens discomfort or intolerance
  • Neck/shoulder pain
  • Back pain
  • Eye irritation including burning, dryness, and redness

The distance at which most screens are used can play a role in the discomfort experienced by some. In addition to near work demands, the high energy artificial blue light emitted by these devices can be a source of issue for many. This light can disrupt internal biological clock function, leading to negative impacts on sleep and overall health.

Screen time is often unavoidable. A variety of lens designs are available to help with the specific demands placed on the eyes with the use of computers and devices. These include occupational lenses which are designed to alleviate the focusing demand of both the computer and near work in the same lens.

In addition to helping with the distance demands of screens, Blutech lenses specifically block the most harmful wavelengths of high energy blue light.

Modern demands in how we use our visual system require modern technology in lenses to help maintain optimal function and health.
